The Puzzle Challenge Begins...

Hey there! So yesterday when I was looking for something to do, I decided that it would be fun to do a contest on my blog. But we found out that would not really be possible. But then I had an idea. Once every few days, I could post a mystery that I wrote, and then a few days later I could post the answer. Anyway, here is the first mystery:

 The other day, my friend and I were walking down the street. My friend, (His name is Fred A. Doogong), said to me,"Hey, Joe. Do you hear that siren? I think that is a police's siren. Let's go check it out!" So we decided to to walk toward the sound. Eventually, we got to the source of the noise-the bank! In front of the bank, there were three policemen and five people. One of the people was yelling. He was saying: "I tell ya, I didn't do it! I was innocently walking down the street-" Just then, another friend of mine, David, walked by. He said, "Hey Joe, I thought you guys were coming over for the evening. How about we watch this on TV at my place."
  "Okay", I said, figuring that we could find out more at when we watched TV.
  When we got to David's house, I turned on the TV right away. The TV reporter was saying that someone had stolen $5,000.00 from the bank. Only one out of five of the suspects would talk. The one that would talk said that he couldn't have done it because he was walking home from the airport in town after coming home from China. He said that in China he had hiked Mount Everest. He also said that he didn't have his luggage because his wife was driving all of it home for him. While he was saying all this three of the other suspects kept straight faces and one smiled. All of a sudden, I said,"David, Fred! I know who robbed the bank! Call the police!
                                                     Who did it, and how did I know?   


The answer is: The guy who would talk talked too much; Mount Everest isn't in China, it's in Tibet and Nepal!

Fishing at Groton

A few days ago, we had a bit of a family  reunion at Groton State Park. Anyway, my dad and I brought our fishing gear with us, thinking that it might be nice to have grilled trout. (We camped on Kettle Pond). So, when we went out fishing the day we got there it was too bad that we went out fishing at about 4:00 in the afternoon. (Fish only feed at sunrise and sunset). So, the second, (and last) night we were there, we went out fishing after s'mores, at about 8:00 at night. We didn't only get to go fishing, but we also got to see a beautiful sunset. (My dad said it was more being on the still lake than fishing). That time we went out, my dad caught a five-inch perch with a three-inch lure. Then, the next, (and last) morning we were there, we got up at about 6:30 in the morning and went fishing. That time I caught a seven-inch Perch with a three-inch lure and my dad caught a four-inch Perch with a three-inch lure. We didn't notice that we should have kept the seven-inch Perch for a fried snack until we got back and had let it go. Well we were out in the morning, we also saw 3 loons, and one time, my dad casted, and while he was reeling in to cast again, a loon came up for air in between him and his lure about 20 feet away. That was awesome.

Criss Cross War is Born!

  Hi there! I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have trouble finding things to write about. Anyway, a few days ago, my sister decided she wanted to make up rules for a card game, so she made up the rules for a variation of the game of war, with very little help from my mom. Then my mom thought that it should be called "Criss Cross War". So, how about I tell you the rules!
   Setup: give each player an equal amount of a deck of cards.
1~In the middle of the table, each person puts 2 cards side by side the long way. Then they take two cards and deal them face up. (Make sure that you deal them in the same direction as the face down cards. (The other person's cards should be the exact same).
2~Then, to determine who wins the cards, you look cross ways so that you're looking at one card from each person. The card that is higher wins. (Ace is the highest). Repeat that on the other side.
3~ If there is a tie, do step 2 on the other side, then take the cards underneath out from under to determine the winner. It is winner-takes-all. If there is another tie, than you take out the other underneath cards to determine the winner. Again, for those it is winner-takes-all. If there is another tie, decide what to do yourself, because there is no rule.
4~ If you do step 2 and each person wins one pair of cards, and the other person wins the other, than it is called a "Criss Cross". That is when you flip over all of the underneath cards and do step 2 with the underneath cards. The only difference is that the highest card takes everything. If there is a tie between highest cards, the you determine the winner with the other two cards. There is no rule for if ther is another tie, so you can make up your own rule.
5~If you are out of cards, you suffle your win pile and flip it over to be your stock pile. If the other person has the whole deck of cards, than they win.

 

I'm going to Boston! Yay!

Hi there! I am so excited! I am going to Boston with my class, (and a few others),  on Thursday/Friday this week. We are leaving at 8:00 when school starts on Thursday, and we are getting back at sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 on Friday. Again, I am sooo excited! We are going to the Boston Aquarium, then we are staying in a party room on the floor of the Boston Science Museum for Thursday night. Then on Friday, we eat breakfast in the museum, then we walk around in the museum for a few hours, then we get on the bus for the rest of the day. On the bus, we pass snacks up and down the bus, and vote on movies to see on the overhead screens. When a movie is over, the teachers hold up a few movies that we haven't seen yet, then after they have read what each movie is about, we vote on which movie to see next.

Having Ivy Over

Since this week is vacation, my neighbor is in Florida. And since she has a 4-year old dog named Ivy, we are taking care of a dog this week. So as I am typing, Ivy is walking around our house and sniffing just about everything. Anyway, I love being around dogs, so this is awesome. Ivy is pretty simple. Feed her twice a day, give her plenty of exercise, and give her lots of attention. (That part is pretty simple). We also need to feed the cats for our neighbor, but that part is easy, because they only run out of food every 2-3 days.

                                                             Oooops! Sorry, gotta go. Ivy needs dinner. :0

Muppaphone

So there is this YouTube video that i really like that is called "Muppaphone". It is this muppet that has this crew of little pink guys and orange guys. The last one comes onto the stage late, and the muppet is really angry. Then the muppet is forgiving when the pink guy says "Sorry I'm late. I couldn't get a parking space". Then the muppet starts singing a song that says a healing witch told him to say the magic words : "Ooh; Eee; Ooh AhAh; Ting: Tang; WallaWalla Bing Bang". (The crew members actually say the magic words).During the song, the muppet hits the pink and orange guys one-by-one on the head with mallets, and when he hits them, they each say their sound, making the magic words. Then at the end, the witch pops out of nowhere and says "I told you not to tell anybody! You will be punished!"
then, with a wave of her finger, she turns the muppet into a pink guy. (He is much bigger, and looks very stunned). Then, if you like that, you should watch the muppets playing the song "To Morrow".

Happy New Year!

Today is January 2nd 2010. (I meant to say 2011!!!). Anyway, I went to First Night Burlington 2011 two nights ago, and I had a lot of fun. First, we went to a Circus Smirkus presentation at Memorial Auditorium. At the beginning of the presentation, all the actors and clowns did things like really fast double and triple back-flips and front-flips onto the stage. Then they did  the regular hand-stands and stuff like standing on people to make weird pyramids. Then we went to the Roxy Cinema and watched some Loony Tunes. Then we went to see "Banjo Dan" at the First Congregation Church. Then the dragon parade and fireworks we watched from the top of the parking garage. During the beginning of the parade we bought hot dogs for dinner. Then came a "Fragile Zoe" concert in a run-down sort of room/restaurant in the basement of Memorial Auditorium. It was kind of like a concert you could find at the store "Daddy's Junky Music". (That means that it was a kind of rock). Then more Loony Tunes. That absolutely made me call my mom awesome. Then, last of all, at 8:00, we went to the Flynn Theater to see the Burlington Taiko Drummers play till 9:15. then we went home. It was a fun night.
